1998

Truly Norman set a new school record in the 1600 at the Triway Invitational as she placed second in a time of 5:31.6 to break the old mark of 5:35.0 established in 1995 by Brooke Marckel. Norman also finished fifth in the 800 (2:30.0) as she scored all 10 Lady Lions points at the invitational as Minerva placed 13th out of 15 schools.

Malvern seniors Eugene Dennis and Clint West have been chosen to play in the annual East-West All-Star game. West was the 1997 CO-MVP for Malvern as he led the team in tackles with 90. He played both ways, was the emotional leader of the defense and was named to the All-IVC first team. Dennis picked up the Hornet Trophy. He also played both ways, making 48 tackles, rushing for 151 yards and catching four passes for 35 yards. Dennis was third on the team in scoring with 23 points and was named to the All-IVC second team.

1988

At the annual spring concert, Malvern High School Band Director Scott Mason presented the John Phillip Sousa award to senior Tiffany Brown.

Bob Dennis of Denny's Market presented Eva Hunter with a Hotpoint built-in dishwasher as the winner of a drawing sponsored by Denny's Market and Sunlight dishwashing detergent.

1978

Pattersonville Telephone Company announces it has installed additional equipment in its switching office to accommodate Touch Tone calling for its subscribers. The company also wants to remind subscribers that toll-free calling between Carrollton and Pattersonville will soon be in effect.

The first four grades at Malvern Elementary School will present the musical play "Peter Pan." Peter Pan is played by Jim Sutherland; Captain Hook by Martin Albright; Wendy, Michael and John, the Darling children, by Lynda Kettering, Donnie Moeglin and Danny Clark, respectively.

1968

Church of God members are now attending services in the Fellowship Hall. The congregation sold its Murray Avenue Church last year and hopes to be in its new home within the next 60 days. The Fellowship Hall is located on the left at the rear of the sanctuary.

Miss Shirley Dungan who has been on the staff at Aultman Hospital is taking a leave of absence and in June will enter Western Reserve University where she will begin work toward her degree in nursing. She is a graduate of Minerva High School and Aultman Hospital School of Nursing.

1958

Marilyn Lippincott, who is employed as supervisor of reservations at Northeast Air Lines, New York City, caused quite a sensation last week when she and the supervisor of records appeared in true sack dresses. The girls decided to do something about the new style. They drove up-state, secured some real feed sacks, fashioned themselves sack dresses, and appeared at work in them. They were invited to the Stork Club wearing the dresses and appeared on TV wearing the famous dresses. It took a girl from the country to make the native New Yorkers sit up and take notice.

One of the older business establishments on North Market Street was sold when the Hawkins' Restaurant changed ownership. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Partridge, purchased the business from Mrs. Helen Hawkins of East Rochester. She has owned the business for 20 years. The new owners announce no change in policy.

1948

One hundred and five junior police and deputies, the largest group ever to represent Stark County, will join more than 15,000 school children, who will parade down Constitution Avenue in the 12th annual National School Patrol Assembly in Washington. Representing Minerva is Bill Nunamaker, eighth-grade pupil. Others from the vicinity making the trip are Patricia Ramser of New Franklin, Robert Adams of Paris, and Geraldine Fallot of Robertsville.

T.J. Desmond represented the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters at the Trade Unions Exhibit in Milwaukee. While there, Desmond was interviewed about the pottery industry on a television broadcast. Abe Edwards and John Rourke also attended the exhibit.

1938

A new restaurant, The Lincoln Coffee Shoppe, will open in the former Southern Inn location in the Minerva hotel building. It will be operated by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Buezberger, of Cleveland.
