A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was injured in a crash, May 6, on Apollo Road, southeast of Carrollton in Lee Township.

Jonathan D. Schafrath, 31, of Canton, was transported by EMT Squad of Carrollton to Mercy Medical Center at Canton after the accident at about 9:10 a.m. He was treated and released.

According to troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol Post at New Philadelphia, Schafrath was driving a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, a sheriff's department cruiser, on Apollo Road, near Bay Road, when he went off the right side of the road about 255 feet, striking a ditch, a culvert, and an embankment causing him to roll the car over onto its roof.

Schafrath was issued a citation for failure to control and appeared in Carroll County Municipal Court on Thursday, May 8. Schafrath entered a guilty plea and received a $100 fine plus $50 court costs, as well as two points on his drivers license. The cruiser was towed by Deluxe Auto of Carrollton and is a total loss.
