Officials at the Carroll County Health Department, CCHD, advocate the public's awareness of the importance of receiving immunizations on a timely schedule. The following list contains several of the more common myths pertaining to immunizations.
Myth: Vaccines for rare illnesses are unnecessary. Fact: If immunization rates drop, diseases such as polio could become common threats again.
Myth: Adults do not need vaccinations. Fact: Both children and adults should adhere to an immunization schedule.
Myth: Vaccine side effects are more dangerous than the disease. Fact: Vaccines can cause side effects, but usually these are minor and only last a few hours. Severe reactions are rare.
Myth: All information about vaccines on television and the Internet is reliable. Fact: Your health-care provider is a much more reliable source for answers to questions and concerns about vaccines.
Myth: Vaccinations are unaffordable. Fact: Free vaccines are provided for those in need.
Fact: Immunization is your best defense against deadly diseases.
