J.L. Lieberman OD

Dr. Julius L. Lieberman, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on July 27, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Lieberman was born in Columbus. He was the son of the late Mary Lieberman. While attending The Ohio State University Optometry School, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II. After the war, he completed his degree in optometry, and he then opened up practices in Minerva and Canton where he practiced for nearly 40 years. Dr. Lieberman was a pioneer in contact lenses, as well as being active in the Ohio Optometric Association. He was an active member in the Jewish War Veterans and Hadassah Associates. After the death of his first wife of nearly 45 years, the late Sylvia Lieberman, he soon remarried and settled in Boynton Beach, Fla., with his second wife, Anita. Dr. Lieberman is survived by his wife, Anita, of 19 years; sons, Dr. Perry M. (Sharon) Lieberman of North Canton, Mark (Shelly) Lieberman of Philadelphia, Pa., and Dr. Jef (Camela) Lieberman of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Appelbaum of Cleveland; and grandchildren, Marissa Lieberman, Alex and Abrienne Lieberman, Joshua, Moriah and Jacob Lieberman and Rachel and Emily Appelbaum. He leaves behind a sister, Ida Cropp, as well as two step-daughters. Funeral services were held at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel on July 29 in Boynton Beach, Fla. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society or AIPAC, 251 H St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20001.
