Myrtle A. McClintock

Myrtle A. McClintock, 91, of Malvern, formerly of Alliance, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at her home.

She was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Tampa, Fla., to James Otis and Edna Leona (Reames) Hatchell.

Myrtle was an honor-roll student at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. She graduated in 1939 from Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia and on Aug. 2, 1939, she married Dr. John L. McClintock. Her early career included surgical and visiting nursing in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and public and school nursing during World War II in Daytona Beach. She was employed as a school nurse at Alliance High School from 1975 until her retirement in 1982. She also worked with her late husband in his Alliance medical practice.

She was an active member of the Bethany United Presbyterian Church, where she taught adult Sunday school class and served as Bible study leader, and was currently a member of First United Presbyterian Church. She served her church as president of Church Women United and is a life member of the National United Presbyterian Women.

Myrtle formerly served as secretary of the Visiting Nurses Advisory Council and volunteered for Alliance Schools' preschool clinic and the Red Cross Blood Bank program. Her civic activities have included Alliance City Hospital Auxiliary Board of Directors, Alliance Woman's Club, Goodwill Industries and past president of the Alliance Physicians Wives.

She was chosen as the 1986 "Woman of the Year" for Women's Division of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce. She was very active in the Alliance Schools PTA and was recipient of the Elementary Principals Association Award for outstanding service with Alliance Public Schools and was given a life membership in the Ohio PTA Council. She held office in band boosters during the years her daughters were in the high school band.

Survivors include her daughters, Lois Mercer of Tampa, Fla., Bonnie (Mike) Stich, of Lake Mohawk, and Jean (Kevin) Enzian of Flower Mound, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. John McClintock; daughter, Marilyn; and three brothers, Clifford, Otis Milton and Francis Hatchell; and her dear friend and longtime companion, Jack Webb.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Interment was at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
