Shirley J. Shoemaker, 77, of Paris, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in the Alliance Community Care Center.
She was born April 19, 1935, in Johnstown, Pa., to Charles and Ruth Irene (Dick) Roberts. She was a housewife and attended the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was an avid singer, guitar player and champion yodeler and sang in her brother's Hap Roberts Bluegrass Band.
She is survived by her husband, William Shoemaker, whom she married April 16, 1955; daughter, Tamera (Richard) Sale of Minerva; son, John (Keniazh) Shoemaker of Waxhaw, N.C.; sister, Leona (Robert) Boyle of Beloit; two brothers, Kenneth (Joan) Roberts and Joseph Roberts both of Johnstown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jesse and Emily Beaber, and Richie, Laura and Amanda Sale. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Schlosser, and Ethel Roberts; four brothers, Milton, Lester, Harold "Hap," and Robert Roberts; and a grandson, Ben Burr.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 25, 1 p.m., in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva, with Pastor Dave Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 6-8 p.m., in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday.
