Workmen were busy this week renewing the appearance and working condition of the huge four-sided clock that hangs at the corner of the Minerva Savings and Bank Co. building. The timepiece, which was installed in 1925, has become a permanent fixture on Market Street and, up until this week, had never been taken down. The mechanism was cleaned and polished; 16 new lights installed inside the clock and coat of copper paint has brightened up the outside appearance.
Marshal J.C. Steffey received a report from two junior-high boys, which immediately caused much concern in the police department. The two boys related they were enroute from the grade school and near the West Lincoln Way and Grant Street intersection were questioned by two strangers as to "What the plant was near the bridge on the other side of town." The boys told them it was Minerva's power plant. They again questioned, "Is that where you get your water supply?" They told them it was, and they said, "Are you sure that is the only place?" The men (the boys said they looked like foreigners) got into a car with New York license tags and drove toward Canton. Several weeks ago signs were posted at the plant restricting anyone from entering the building. We hope this is not an attempt at sabotage.
