Moran receives Governor's Award

Published:

COLUMBUS -- Minerva High School junior Dan Moran was recently among 12 students in grades 10-12 selected by the Ohio Academy of Science to receive college scholarships as awardees of Governor's Awards for Excellence in Student Research in biotechnology, materials science, manufacturing sciences and information science and technology. The students presented their projects at State Science Day earlier this year.

Moran placed third in the Information Science and Technology Research Division, and received a $500 scholarship to an Ohio college.

"Receiving a Governor's Award for Excellence in Student Research sends a clear signal that these research areas are important to the economic future of Ohio," said Lynn Elfner, the academy's CEO. "Whole new worlds of opportunities open up to students when they complete research or technological design projects."

The Ohio Academy of Science initiated this educational partnership program in cooperation with the Office of the Governor and the Technology Division of the Ohio Department of Development that has supported this program since 1985 by grants to OAS.
